Vietnam and Israel boost defence ties

PANO – Vietnam and Israel should put forward the preparation for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation late this year and a supplementary MoU on defence industry cooperation to enhance mutual trust and ensure a legal framework in carrying out cooperation projects.

This was stated by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defence at the reception given yesterday to Israeli Defence Counsellor in Vietnam and Thailand Dan Camen at the Ministry’s headquarters.



Confirming Vietnam’s interest in defence ties with Israel, General Vinh held that defence industry is with potential that the two countries should start their cooperation first so as to lay ground for further comprehensive cooperation later on.


The Vietnamese deputy defence minister also reminded the idea to design a program to exchange highly qualified defence workers, which he had proposed in his recent visit to Israel. .


General Vinh said that Vietnam is willing to invite Israeli officers to study in Vietnam and hopes Israel to create conditions for Vietnamese military engineers and experts to study in Israel, especially in fields of science and technology and enterprise management.


For his part, Israeli Defence Counsellor in Vietnam and Thailand Dan Camen stressed that Israel has always attached importance to its cooperation with Vietnam, including defence, based on respect, mutual understanding and trust. He affirmed that during his term, he would do his utmost to contribute to boosting Vietnam-Israel defence ties.
