Vietnam asks US to facilitate TPP deal, remove trade barriers

Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang has requested the U.S. to provide Vietnam with favorable conditions in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations and remove all trade barriers.



The Vietnamese leader made the request at his meeting with visiting Senator Bob Corker, who is a ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, in Hanoi on Tuesday.



President Sang told his guest that Vietnam is determined to conclude negotiations for the TPP and hopes that the U.S. will give the Southeast Asian nation favorable conditions to lay out a suitable roadmap for the deal.


He also urged the U.S. to open its door wider for the sale of high technology equipment to Vietnam.


In reply, Senator Corker told his host that the U.S. Congress will seek ways to raise a common voice on the TPP agreement soon, as it is an opportunity for cooperation and development for all member countries.


The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concerns.


Regarding the East Vietnam Sea issue, Senator Corker voiced his support for Vietnam’s stance on solving all disputes through peaceful measures in line with international law.


He also put emphasis on the need for the solidarity among ASEAN member countries over the issue.


The Vietnamese leader affirmed that Vietnam always wants to build and maintain friendly relations with other countries in the region and the world, opposing the use of or threat to use force in settling disputes.


He emphasized that all sovereignty disputes must be resolved through peaceful measures based on international law.
