Vietnam budget carrier sells tickets at less than 50 cents

A Vietnamese no-frills airline is attracting passengers by running a promotional program in which airfares are lowered to even less than half a dollar.



Low-cost and privately-owned VietJet Air is selling tickets starting from VND9,000 (US$0.42) each for all of its 27 domestic and international services from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm every day.


Cheap tickets under the program are available at the carrier’s website www.vietjetair.com, at the mobile version http://ift.tt/1esvh3x, and its Facebook page, http://ift.tt/1gs4ztG.


Payments are accepted in Visa Card, MasterCard, JCB, American Express and ATM cards issued by 24 major Vietnamese banks.


The program is running until the end of this month, under a larger promotional campaign that lasts until September 29, according to VietJet Air.


Passengers flying with the budget carrier from July 15 to September 29 will have the chance to win a Toyota Vios and other valuable prices with daily luck draws from their ticket numbers.


Another low-cost carrier, Jetstar Pacific, offered 10,000 tickets at only VND3,000 ($0.14) each under a three-phase program on July 24, August 1, and August 7.


The super-cheap tickets, available on its website from 2:00 pm to 11:59 pm during the last phase of the program on Thursday, were intended for services that connect Ho Chi Minh City with Hanoi, Hue, and Phu Quoc from February 5 to 19 and March 5 to 19.


Jetstar Pacific said 3,500 such tickets were sold out during the first two phases of the program.


From 2:00 pm August 7 to 11:59 pm August 12, the low-cost carrier continues selling cheap tickets for various services, with airfares ranging from VND190,000 to VND780,000 ($8.97-36.82) per ticket.
