Vietnam draws host Brunei 2-2 at SEA U-22 Football Champ

Vietnam was held to a 2-2 draw with the host Brunei on Friday after twice taking the lead during the game in group B of the Southeast Asian U-22 Football Championship organized from August 8-23.


Hong Duy opened the score for Vietnam in the ninth minute. Following an attack on the right wing, the ball was passed into the central area in front of Brunei box and the midfielder wearing number 7 made a diving shot to go into the low left corner of the goal.


At the 34th minute, the host Brunei leveled it 1-1 since Vietnamese goalkeeper Minh Toan was hesitating at blocking a free kick.



Three minutes into the second half, midfielder Thanh Tung took Vietnam to a 2-1 lead after dribbling the ball past two rival players.


But the joy for Vietnam didn’t last long when Brunei organized a counterattack in the 77th minute and Adi Said leveled the result 2-2. The goal by came after Vietnam pushed up high its formation for attack.


Since the 86th minute, the host Brunei had to compete with only 10 players after Awang Ali was given a second yellow card and left the field.


At the 88th minute, Vietnamese striker Van Toan had a chance to face Brunei keeper Azman Ilham Noor but shot the ball wide.
