Vietnam were stopped Thursday by Australia in the semi-final of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship 2014 in Malaysia.
The team had a promising start when Trong Luan scored in the 7th minute. However, just one minute before the break, Australia’s Marcus Basger took advantage of a poor pass by the Vietnamese players to score to tie things at 1-1.

In the second half, Vietnam twice came back from behind to force a 3-3 draw against the Aussies at the end of the 40-minute regulation period. However, the exhausted Vietnamese players lost 4-3 in extra time.
In the other semi-final, defending champions Thailand needed a late strike from Wanlop Pansomsua to see off Indonesia 1-0.
Thailand and Australia thus set up a second straight final meeting. Last year, Thailand overcame Australia 2-1 to win the title.
Vietnam and Indonesia will meet in the third placing playoff on Sep. 26.
