VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) is seeking partners to sell a number of expressways such as Cau Gie – Ninh Binh and Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh. Cau Gie-Ninh Binh highway.
In a recent meeting with VEC, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang said the investor of the Hanoi – Hai Phong highway (VIDIFI) is preparing to sell 70% of the project to an Indian investor.
Minister Thang suggested that VEC should consider selling some highways to have funding for other road projects rather than depend on the state budget or government bonds.
Mr. Thang believes that by changing the investment models, the objectives to build 2,000 km of highways can be fully achieved.
“We need to change the thinking on infrastructure investment. Roads can be sold after construction. There are many foreign investors who are interested in our projects,” he said.
Mr. Mai Tuan Anh, VEC General Director, said the corporation is working with relevant bodies to complete procedures to call for investors at home and abroad to buy roads and most importantly to determine the selling price of each route.
He said VEC would offer for sale five highway projects: Noi Bai – Lao Cai, Cau Gie – Ninh Binh, Ben Luc – Long Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh, and Da Nang – Quang Ngai. The most attractive projects may be Cau Gie – Ninh Binh and Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh.
