Over 180 suspension bridges to be completed in 28 mountainous provinces

The project to build 186 suspension bridges across 28 mountainous provinces in the northern, central and Central Highlands regions will be completed by mid-2015 at the latest, the Ministry of Transport confirmed in its recent announcement.

Accordingly, the ministry has issued circulars instructing the design, construction, and inspection of the bridges, as well as the management and use of the bridges along rural roads.

It has also set up and announced designs of model bridges for large-scale construction.


The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam has adopted the economic and technical reports of 83 initial bridges worth some VND403 billion.


So far, the construction has started on 12 bridges, 8 of which are expected to be completed in October, bringing benefit to Yen Bai, Ha Nam, Nghe An, Dien Bien and Bac Kan provinces. By the end of this year a further 80 bridges should reach completion.


The construction aims to realise the Party and Government policies to serve the travel needs of residents and pupils in mountainous and ethnic minorities-inhabited regions./.
