Long An to build irrigation works

Under a long-term programme upgrading local irrigational systems, the southern province of Long An’s People’s Committee will spend more than VND13 trillion (US$565 million) from different capital sources, including VND3 trillion ($130 million) from ODA (official development assistance) capital, to build and upgrade irrigation works in the Dong Thap Muoi area.


The programme aims to benefit local farmers who use 298,000 hectare of cultivated land.

Quang Binh supports people in flooded areas



More than 3,880 households living in flooded areas of Quang Binh Province will receive loans as part of a preferential loans programme worth VND220 billion (US$9 million) from the local government from now to 2016. Under the project, each family will receive VND12 million-16 million ($520-$690) in loans with the interest rate of 3 per cent a year for 10 years to upgrade or build a house.

HCM City launches price-stabilisation programme


HCM City will start its price-stabilisation programme before Tet (Lunar New Year), according to the city’s Department of Industry and Trade next month. The department is encouraging enterprises to join the programme. As previous years, the department will continue to stabilise the price of essential groups – food and foodstuff, milk, medicine, school supplies and transport services.

HCM City to build Student Cultural House


The HCM City’s People’s Committee will spend VND36 billion (US$1.6 million) to build the Student Cultural House in Thu Duc District. The building will be managed by the city’s Youth Union and include cultural and sports areas serving thousands of students. Construction is expected to begin early next year.
