PANO – Two Vietnamese frigates HQ-011 Dinh Tien Hoang and HQ-012 Ly Thai To led by Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Kiem on November 12th arrived at the Port of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta, starting the first official visit of the Vietnamese naval ships to Indonesia.
The visit aims at strengthening mutual understanding and trust to further consolidate the development of the fine relationship between the two armed forces and the two peoples for peace, stability and development of the region and the rest of the world, leading toward the successful building of an ASEAN Community by 2015.

Later in the day, the delegation paid a courtesy call to Head of Northern Jakarta and visited the Vietnamese Embassy and Defence Attaché Office in Indonesia.
As scheduled, the delegation will join friendly sports activities, visit naval units of Indonesian Navy in Jakarta, and hold a reception banquet on board the Vietnamese ship for Indonesian naval representatives.
Following the visit, the naval ships of Vietnam and Indonesian forces plan to conduct joint training in search and rescue operations at sea on November 15th.
Earlier, in May 2012, chiefs of Navy of Vietnam and Indonesia signed a reference document for the bilateral dialogue mechanism to implement the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in October 2010 on defence cooperation.
In July 2013, the two navies held a bilateral consultation meeting in Indonesia and in March 2014, the Vietnam People’s Navy dispatched hospital naval ship HQ-561 to Komodo exercise.
