PANO – The Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence on December 7th held a get-together for generations of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, generals, heroes of the people’s armed forces, and retired high-ranking officers, who are living in Hanoi.

Addressing the meeting, held in the capital city, Minister of National Defence General Phung Quang Thanh informed the delegates about developments at home, in the region and the rest of the world, the impact of socio-economic situations on the army’s missions, the combat readiness training, as well as the practical activities in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).


According to the minister, the whole army has carried out such gratitude activities as free health checkups and medicines for veteran revolutionaries, policy families and national contributors, and building houses, worth more than VND 2 billion in total, for needy policy families.


He also laid stress on important achievements of the armed forces over the past year, such as the good staff work for the Party and the State to deal with issues, including the East Sea dispute, in contribution to ensuring peaceful and stable environment in the region, avoiding disputes and creating favorable conditions for economic development. Notably, measures to address issues have been supported by people from all walks of life and world’s public opinions.

Furthermore, the ideological and political education work has been done well. As a result, soldiers have observed strictly discipline, been ready to receive missions and dared to sacrifice to defend national sovereignty, as well as proactively lent locals helping hands in preventing and overcoming natural disasters. Besides, army units have promoted training and combat readiness, mastered weapons and equipment, and organized live-fire exercises. Attentively, the army has actively and implemented defence external affairs, contributing to the enhancement of friendly, cooperative and developing ties with other countries.


At the meeting, delegates expressed their confidence in great achievements of the country and the army. Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Phiet, a hero of the people’s armed forces and former deputy political chief of the Air Defence-Air Force Service showed his pride to be grown up in the VPA. “To continue contributing to the cause of national and army construction, we will always preserve and promote the noble virtue of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, be loyal to the Party, the nation and people and stand firm before any difficulties and challenges, enthusiastically contribute to the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern army and share experience with young generations”, Phiet said.
