The Vietnam – Customs Union Free Trade Agreement is seen as the key for Vietnam’s goods to unlock the door to Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan – a broad market with over 170 million people. This is a golden opportunity for Vietnamese companies to boost exports to this market, especially agricultural products. Minh Hien Food Manufacturing and Processing Co., Ltd is determined to grasp this opportunity with this market after the agreement takes effect. The company possesses modern technological lines, abundant material sources and extensive experience in export to Russia. Tapping inherent strengths
With a more 30-year experience in cattle and livestock slaughtering, Minh Hien has become market leading food company in the northern region. The company also ranked second nationwide in terms of meat export.
In 2004, to improve product quality and boost exports to foreign countries, the company boldly invested to build a new modern, advanced production factory in Bich Hoa Industrial Zone, Thanh Oai District, Hanoi. The plant was the first model in Hanoi to be applied modern technologies. Each month, the plant processes 1,000-1,500 tonnes of meat.
Food safety is always a vital factor of Minh Hien Company. The company’s factories met international standards like ISO 22000 and ABS Quality Evaluations of the US and HACCP of Vinacert. In 2013, to meet the growing demand for quality products and ensure environmental hygiene, Hanoi invested US$1.5 million for Minh Hien to build wastewater treatment facility. Currently, the waste water treatment system is operating safely and efficiently.
Possessing modern slaughtering facilities and utilising local input supplies, Minh Hien is a big supplier of clean meat to domestic and foreign markets. In the domestic market, the company is a distributor of pork, beef, chicken and other meets for Hanoi and surrounding provinces. Minh Hien brand name is available in most supermarkets such as Big C, Metro, Hapro, Fivimart, Coop Mart and Lotte. In foreign markets, the company’s pork is interested by Hong Kong consumers. The Department of Livestock Husbandry also certified the company for export of pork to Russia.
Experience with Russian market
In addition to the traditional domestic market, Minh Hien has always attached much importance to Russian market. Deputy Director Nguyen Thi Hien said “Since 2001, at the request of the Government, Minh Hien collaborated with the Department of Veterinary Medicine and the Vietnam Livestock Husbandry Corporation to export goods to Russia to repay debts. With its responsibility and dedication, Minh Hien always meets target and requirements of the Vietnam Livestock Husbandry Corporation. Then, in 2005, some Russian food partners sought Minh Hien to supply meat for Russian market. In my opinion, this is a very potential market. Furthermore, in the coming time when the FTA between Vietnam and the Customs Union of and Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan is signed, this will be a tremendous opportunity for food processing companies like Minh Hien.”
She said as Russia is a huge country, understanding and accessing business opportunities is difficult for many Vietnamese enterprises. Moreover, the long transportation distance, which results in more time for payment, concerns the company about capital turnover. In addition, Russia in particular and Europe in general are pretty strict about food quality and safety standards.
Therefore, the company hopes more supports for exporters like capital and interest protection from the Government. For its part, Minh Hien has decided to continue to invest to expand production lines to double output meet new opportunities. With its modern production facilities and good understanding about Russian partners, Minh Hien is confident about its export quality and quantity in the future.
