VGP – Hai Phong’s People’s Committee organized a working session with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on treatment programs with Methadone.
Speaking at the session, Vice Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee Le Khac Nam highly valued the assistance of the international organizations in general and the USAID in particular for the city in HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
He hoped that the USAID will continue to provide more technical assistance for Hai Phong City to launch effectively the programs.
According to the statistics of the city’s police, after the programs were realized, the number of criminals related to drugs reduced nearly 30% between the year 2008-2010 and down 70% by June 2014.
Representative of the USAID Jason Michael Foley lauded on the cooperative programs, adding that the USAID will give priority to supporting the city to implement effectively the HIV/AIDS prevention and control programs.
The northern city of Hai Phong now has 12 Methadone treatment centers which are taking care of more than 3,400 drug addicts.
