As many as 583 taxi drivers of different firms were fined last year for refusing passengers going on short distance from Tan Son Nhat Airport or asking for more money than on taximeter, according to the airport authorities.
Although passengers got on the problematic taxis in the airport, the wrongdoings happened outside so it was difficult to detect all of the mistakes.
In 2014, Hoang Long taxi firm had 11 drivers who refused transporting passengers going on short distance from Tan Son Nhat. Saigon Tourist had 10 drivers making the similar mistake.
Other firms included Savico with 9 drivers, Mai Linh 7, Saigon Air and Vinataxi each with 6, Vinasun 5, and Happy Taxi with 2.
Besides refusing passengers or asking for higher money than on taxi meter, some drivers violated by bargaining on the transport prices with passengers instead of counting on taximeter.
Taxis of many firms illegally parked on streets leading to Tan Son Nhat Airport as Hong Ha and Bach Dang in Tan Binh District, causing traffic jam and littering.
In the coming time, security staffs of Tan Son Nhat Airport will coordinate with inspectors of the Transport Department of Ho Chi Minh City to punish violations of taxi drivers.
