A 76-year-old war veteran in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong set off Tuesday for a transnational biking tour.

Ho Ngoc Khiet started his cycling journey at 7 a.m. from the Nam Can District Martyrs Graveyard in the southernmost province of Ca Mau.

He plans to pedal along the National Highway 1A to Huu Nghi Quan Border Gate in the northern province of Lang Son in 50 days.

He said he will visit war martyrs’ graveyards all along the 2,300-kilometer-long highway and burn incense to pray for the fallen soldiers.

“I’m determined to cycle across Vietnam to see beautiful spots of the country, commemorate war martyrs and heroes and strengthen my health,” he told Tien Phong newspaper.

Khiet added that his cycling trip is made on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Reunification Day on April 30.
