A conference has been held to disseminate the US’s criteria and requirements for imported litchis and discuss litchi sale measures in 2015.
In his directive speech at the conference, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Anh Cuong affirmed that the provincial authorities determine to export Hai Duong's specialty of thieu litchis to the US
The Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on the morning of March 5 held a conference to disseminate the US’s criteria and requirements for imported litchis and discuss litchi sale measures in 2015.
At the conference, farmers from Thanh Ha district and Chi Linh provincial town and litchi selling enterprises in the province were informed about necessary conditions for Hai Duong litchis to be exported to the markets of the US and other countries around the world.
The participants were also introduced irradiation method, one of the necessary conditions for litchis to be exported to these markets.
A representative of Thanh Ha Thieu Litchi Association suggested that the provincial functional bodies help Thanh Ha farmers with techniques and funds for pilot model implementation to export litchis to the US. The association will coordinate with specialized agencies of the district to persuade the people to take part in building a litchi region eligible for export.
The Department of Science and Technology proposed selection of an independent litchi region to build a pilot model and take attention measures for litchis to meet export requirements.
Some enterprises asked the provincial authorities to facilitate the making of a trial batch of goods for export to the US to have experience for further production.
The provincial Agricultural Encouragement Center offered the solution of developing a set of standards for exported litchis, etc.

The Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee suggested that the Plant Protection Department clearly inform specialized bodies, enterprises, and especially litchi growers in Hai Duong province about the things in need of immediate realization to satisfy the standards.
In addition, farmers in Thanh Ha district and Chi Linh provincial town should proactively comprehend the US’s requirements for instant application to practical production.
The authorities of localities with large litchi areas need to pay more attention to improving the quality of litchis, continue to expand the litchi areas under VietGAP standards, and focus on care to ensure the quality and achieve a high yield of litchis in this year’s crop.
