The race aimed to raise funds to support disadvantaged children and young adults in Vietnam.
This year’s event was different from the previous editions as the rider of each team was required to carry a passenger and items on the cyclo, and the passengers and the riders, as well as their teams, had to ride out different challenges such as pouring water, kicking tennis balls to a small goal while their legs were tied together, and walking on a wooden ladder together and collecting flags along the racetrack to reach their finish line, instead a straight speed race as
usual.
The participating teams also joined a cyclo decoration contest in which they had to decorate their cyclos and marched with their products along the race.
Free tickets to the event allowed access to some free food and drinks, lucky draw, live music performances, games for children and a flea market featuring hand-made products and some stalls selling T-shirts, bags and caps for charity funding.
Visitors were encouraged to buy raffle tickets to have a chance to receive valuable gifts.
The organizer expects to raise about US$40,000 at this event to provide scholarships and vocational training, and build schools for poor children. Last year, US$38,000 was raised at the annual event.
Since its debut in 2001, the cyclo challenge has raised almost US$700,000 to support disadvantaged children and young adults in Vietnam, with over 21,000 participants.
