The Ministry of Health yesterday sent a dispatch to provincial and municipal people’s committee chairpersons asking them to increase prevention of dengue fever and hand-foot-mouth (HFM) disease.
Since the two diseases have been on the upward trend in first two months of the year in some localities, some provinces in the Southern region such as Dong Nai, An Giang, Long An, Tien Giang, Can Tho, Soc Trang, Dong Thap , Tay Ninh , Ca Mau and the central provinces of Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh have been reported in increasing cases of dengue fever.
In the meantime, HFM cases have increased in Hanoi, the northern province of Hai Phong, and the Central City of Da Nang.
To prevent outbreaks of these diseases widely and reduce the number of infected cases and deaths, the Ministry asked the participation of people’s committee chairpersons and local governments as well as related agencies and the entire machinery of state to implement all synchronous prevention measures.
These measures include killing larva once a week or a month in different districts.
Medical workers must spray chemicals to kill mosquitos in households and encourage residents to conduct environment hygiene measures, personal hygiene by washing soap and toys for children.
The departments of health increase inspection to control the disease and early detect cases of disease as well as prepare full medicines, equipments and chemicals for prevention and treatment. The departments should instruct hospitals to provide treatment methods and upgrade facilities especially focus on divide sections to prevent transmission among patients and concentrate on rescuing patients in severe condition to minimize the deaths.
The Ministry also proposed the Education sector to implement prevention activites against the two diseases in educational facilities especially preschools and kindergartens.
The Education authories should ask schools to provide soaps and teachers instruct children to wash their hands in right ways. Education authority should strengthen supervision to schools especially kindregartens and private daytime child-care centers.
