PANO – Brigade 229 of Engineering Arm and the Party Committee and People’s Committee of Ngoc Thuy district, Hanoi’s Long Bien district on March 20th posthumously conferred the title Hero of the People’s Armed Forces on Senior Colonel Nguyen Phu Xuyen Khung, former Commander of Regiment 151 (predecessor of Brigade 229).

In anti-French War, Senior Colonel Nguyen Phu Xuyen Khung commanded a group of engineers to place explosives underground to destroy the enemy’s blockhouse on Hill A1, making great contributions to the Dien Bien Phu victory. In anti-American War for national salvation, the officer took part in many important battles in Southern battlefield.
The State President on October 21st, 2014 signed the decision to posthumously bestow the noble title to Senior Colonel Nguyen Phu Xuyen Khung in acknowledgment of his contributions to the nation.
