PANO – Newly-appointed Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Vnukov Konstantin Vasilievich affirmed that the Russian-Vietnamese relationship is a rare case without any disputes in history. The two countries have accumulated invaluable experiences in cooperating and supporting each other for decades, which are till very necessary in the new context.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev to visit Vietnam
This year, Russian PM Dmitri Medvedev will pay a working visit to Vietnam and Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang will visit Russia on May 9th to join activities in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War over Nazi Germany.
During the visits of the high-ranking officials, many cooperation agreements will be inked. At present, the two sides are detailing the Russian PM’s visit to Vietnam and it includes many interesting events, said Ambassador Vnukov Konstantin Vasilievich.
Besides, a senior delegation of Russia will take part in the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132) in Hanoi at the end of this month.
The Russian Ambassador promised to do his utmost to boost the bilateral relations, by exchanging high-ranking delegation visits and promoting people-to-people exchanges.
He also voiced pleasure at the number of Russian tourists (400,000 last year) to Vietnam.

Raising Russia-Vietnam trade to US$ 10 billion in 2020
The Russian diplomat asserted that strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam is a priority in Russia’s foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific region, adding that he will contribute to intensifying bilateral cooperation in economy, trade and investment.
The ambassador held that the two countries’ bilateral turnover does not match their real potential. He targeted to help raise Russia-Vietnam trade to US$ 10 billion in 2020 from US$ 3.75 billion in 2014. Russia is promoting cooperation in traditional sectors, including power and oil and gas, with Vietnam, especially in constructing Vietnam’s first nuclear power plant “Ninh Thuan 1″.
The ambassador shared one of his top priorities during his tenure in Vietnam is to develop the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership benefiting the two peoples.
I hope that more Vietnamese products will be sold in Russian shops and vice versa, and more Vietnamese businesses will invest in Russia, especially in agriculture. They will cultivate and process agricultural products in Russia and then deliver them to locals, added the ambassador.
He was also pleased to hear no complaints from Russian companies investing in Vietnam. Conversely, they have hailed Vietnam’s investment environment, meeting the demands of investors.
It is great to say that Vietnamese businessmen can fluently speak Russian. It is a good advantage when they work together in doing business, he said.
Continuing bolstering technique-defence cooperation
Vietnam and Russia started the bilateral technique-defence cooperation when they established diplomatic relations 65 years ago.
During Vietnam’s resistance wars, the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) gave Vietnam military aid.
Most of the weapons and military equipment staffed to the Vietnam People’s Army are made by the USSR in the past and Russia at present.
The ambassador underlined that the Vietnam-Russia defence cooperation is not directed against any third country and does not pose threat to regional and world security, so that they should continuously heighten this field for their mutual benefits.
He believed that with common efforts and bilateral traditional relationship between Vietnam and Russia, these above tasks will be successfully completed.
