Starting operations in March 1997, the 5-star Furama Resort, the first luxury beachfront resort in Viet Nam, has helped to build the city’s tourism brand name. This high-class resort welcomed 70,000 guests and earned around 190 billion VND in revenues last year. In addition, the 4-star Sandy Beach Resort, which showcases the green-blanketed Marble Mountains and the stunning images of Non Nuoc Beach, has contributed to the development of local maritime tourism.

Recent years have seen an increasing number of domestic and foreign businesses coming to Da Nang to invest in this sector. The rise is attributed to the city’s infrastructure construction boom. In particular, the construction of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, the Thuan Phuoc Bridge, the Hai Van Tunnel and the Son Tra-Dien Ngoc road which connects Da Nang with Hoi An have all helped to further promote the development of the city’s tourism sector.

Numerous other tourism investment projects have been completed in areas along the Da Nang coastline. They include the Lifestyle Resort, Sơn Tra Resort and Spa, Crowne Plaza, Vinpearl Luxury Da Nang, Hyatt, and InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula. These are emerging as attractive destinations for domestic and foreign visitors and the number of tourist arrivals is in the hundreds of thousands. Over past years, the city’s authorities, local residents and investors have made every effort to preserve the world-renowned Da Nang beaches.

By late last year, Da Nang had attracted 60 tourism projects with a total investment capital of 4 billion USD. 13 of them are FDI projects, and the remainder involve domestic investors. In addition, many more beachfront resorts are now under construction.

Last year, the city welcomed close to 2.7 million tourists, a 12% increase compared with the previous year. The Da Nang Port is one of Viet Nam’s most attractive destinations for international cruise ships. 55 ships carrying 52,570 passengers berthed at the port last year, a 91.16% year-on-year increase.

Da Nang is a national pioneer in the exploitation of its maritime tourism potential.
