PANO – On July 7th, nearly 1,000 veterans of Truck Division 571 gathered from across the country in a meeting celebrating the 40th anniversary of the division.
Established on the Truong Son-Ho Chi Minh Road battlefield, the division was the first of its kind of the Vietnamese army with the mission of transporting supplies for tactical- and strategic-level operations.
Since its inception in 1973, it accomplished 102 per cent of its first task.
Notably, in the General Uprising and Offensive in Spring 1975 and the historical Ho Chi Minh campaign, the unit, with more than 2,000 vehicles of different kinds, carried weapons, logistics, other equipment and combat troops to battlefields, contributing to the great victory of the nation.
Though the division was dissolved in 1983, its former cadres and soldiers have brought its tradition into full play in their new positions. Besides, they have organized various practical and effective activities.
On the occasion, the division’s liaison committee rewarded typical groups and individuals, presented gifts to children suffering from Agent Orange/Dioxin and congratulated some members on their longevity.
