The Thai Binh provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee held a ceremony on July 23 to receive the title.

Set up in 1965, Company 895, with Le Nguyen Nhung as commander, including 10 squads with 187 volunteer youth from Duyen Ha district (now Hung Ha district), was responsible for keeping roads passable during the Vietnam War in Tam Thanh commune, Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh province.

With a slogan, “Live to protect roads, die bravely. The enemy destroys roads, we will repair”, volunteer youth made many outstanding feats of arms, including one on August 20, 1966, to save goods and people on a train at the Nui Goi train station bombed by American troops.

In that event, Nguyen Thi Hong Mui, leader of the company’s squad 2, died while saving her comrades.

The silent sacrifices of volunteer youth in the company were highlighted in publications of the People’s Army Newspaper and other newspapers.

On the occasion, Thai Binh province presented certificates of merit to 10 outstanding individuals in promoting the role of historical witnesses. Organizations, businesses and individuals handed over meaningful gifts to former volunteer youth of the company.
