On the afternoon of November 14, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Truong Trieu Duong reported to The Tuoi Tre newspaper that 36 overseas Vietnamese in Ormoc have been provided relief and search is ongoing for five overseas Vietnamese in Tacloban.
The Ambassador said that on November 14, the first secretary and cultural attache of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Philippines went to Ormoc to visit and provide urgent relief for 36 Vietnamese survivors in the central Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan.
The Vietnamese Embassy granted the first relief including rice, food, drinking water and medicines for them.
“There are two Vietnamese families with five people in Tacloban. The embassy has contacted them and directed staff to the city to take the families to Ormoc, where it is safer,” Ambassador Truong Trieu Duong said.
“The relief goods the embassy granted to 36 Vietnamese citizens in Ormoc should last about 5-7 days. Therefore, we will continue to organize new relief,” Ambassador Duong said.
On November 14, two other Vietnamese families in Tacloban flew to Manila for safe shelter. These Vietnamese citizens have Filipino spouses, and they have residential papers and thus can travel easier.
There are no information about any dead or missing Vietnamese people in Tacloban after typhoon Haiyan./.
