VGP – The National Committee for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control on January 6 cooperated with eight provinces to organize a conference to seek to expand methadone-based detoxification program.
Representatives of relevant ministries, agencies and eight provinces including Ha Noi, Son La, Thai Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong and Lao Cai and other international organizations attended the conference.
In recent years, 90% of operative fees for HIV treatment and prevention and methadone-based detoxificationare financed by international donors, said Vice Chairman of the Government Office, adding that Viet Nam has treated 17,000 drug addicts at 29 provinces and cities across the country with methadone.
At the conference, delegates exchanged difficulties in resources to launch the tasks assigned by the Government, considered integrating detoxification activities and discussed cooperation between agencies in the field.
Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asserted that methadone treatment program has achieved success and effectiveness.
From now to 2015, 80,000 drug addicts at 30 cities and provinces nationwide are expected to be treated with methadone.
