Smartphone application to helps avoid traffic jams

With a smartphone, travelers can get access to the traffic situation in Hanoi and HCM City and check for alternative routes to avoid the jams.

The Voice of Vietnam (VOV)’s traffic channel cooperated with Samsung Vietnam to launch the application VOV Traffic Map.


The application available on Google Play Store and Samsung Apps will allow users to use it for free.


Besides constant updates of congested spots, the application allows users to view traffic cameras in Hanoi and HCM City and also instructs them to select routes to avoid congestion. It is hoped this will help improve the traffic situation in big cities, with the a trial starting first in in HCM City and Hanoi.


Nguyen Dang Tien, General Director of VOV said the map will be expanded to many localities nationwide.


Statistics show that Vietnam is now among nations with the highest number of motorbikes, at 37 million motorbikes. Both Hanoi and HCM City are also listed among cities with the most-polluted air in Asia.


The average time of traffic jams in Hanoi and HCM City is 45 minutes per day, causing each city to lose around VND18 trillion (USD857 million) per year.
