The Prime Minister recently approved a new project to implement a sustainable supply chain for the tra and basa fish (pangasius) industry. The project is funded by the European Union (EU) under its Switch-Asia Programme.
The programme aims to help Vietnam’s pangasius industry increase its competitiveness in the global market. With this project, the EU will directly support the whole supply chain which brings Vietnam’s pangasius to foreign importers and end-consumers.
Besides, the project helps Vietnamese small and medium enterprises and smallholding producers to exchange information and apply sustainable standards, including ASC and GlobalGAP, for sustainable production.
It will be implemented over four years from 2013 to 2017, focusing on increasing production capacity, enhancing product quality, and reducing environmental impact and production costs.
