Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee’s Vice-Chairman Pham Truong Tho has just met with a delegation from GIZ – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Society for International Cooperation) about the Flood-Proofing of Medium-Sized Cities in the Coastal Plains of Vietnam (FPP).
Tho highly appreciated the support of GIZ in developing the project in Quang Ngai province and stressed on its important role in improving capacity of local government as well as residents in proofing against floods in urban area.
He also affirmed that Quang Ngai would cooperate closely with GIZ to implement the project successfully in the province.
GIZ’s representative appreciated contributed-ideas of Quang Ngai government and affirmed to adjust Quang Ngai-located GIZ project’s schedule to be suitable with the province’s conditions.
Reportedly, with a period of 5 years (2013-2018), FPP’s objectives will support Provincial People’s Committee to develop integrated urban flood protection and drainage master plans to mitigate climate change impacts.
Approved by Ministry of Construction on October 30, 2013, the project locations are Ha Noi, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Soc Trang and Quang Ngai.
The total cost is approved to € 5.72 million, of which the nonrefundable fund of Germany Government is said to be € 5.2 million, and the rest is the corresponding fund.
