Former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and incumbent PM Nguyen Tan Dung
NDO – Former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai was honoured with the 55-year Party membership insignia at a ceremony on December 8.
Born in 1933 in Ho Chi Minh City, the former PM joined the revolutionary movement in 1947 and was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1959.
Before being elected as Prime Minister in 1997, he held many important posts in Ho Chi Minh City and the central government.
He was the Vietnamese Government leader for two five-year terms until he retired in 2006.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the insignia was the recognition of the former PM’s significant contributions to the Party and nation.
PM Dung wished the former PM good health and expressed hope that he would continue to make contribution to the country’s development.
For his part, former PM Khai said he felt honoured to receive the insignia and promised to continue share his experience to help with national development.
