PANO – Binh Thuan provincial Border Guard Command has over the past year teamed with the local authorities to mobilize benefactors to build a number of houses for needy border guards.
Among the 20 needy recipients are non-commisioned officers Lieutenant Tran Van Bay, a radio operator of Phuoc Loc Border Post and Major Dang Phu Hien, deputy head of Phan Ri Cua Border Guard Check-point.
Receiving the 50sq.m house, Lieutenant Tran Van Bay, a native in Quang Tri province, said that “With this new house, we do not have to pay the rent. That helps me feel secured at work”. Bay has worked for Phuoc Loc Border Post for 19 years now.
Meanwhile, Major Dang Phu Hien, who has worked for Hoa Minh Border Post over the past 24 years, expressed his happiness to be presented with a 65sq.m house.
Colonel Nguyen Kien Thuc, Deputy Political Chief of the command said that the staff have come from different places nationwide and despite their difficult living conditions, they have always fulfilled their assigned missions. Therefore, the command has directed its constituent units to grasp the situation of each staff so as to provide timely support and assistance including accommodation.
Apart from assisting its own staff, the command has effectively carried out many programs to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty in the locality, contributing to local socio-economic development.
Notably, the command has also sent its staff to rescue missions. Last year, it rescued eight distressed trawlers with 16 fishermen on board.
