Vietnam, Laos beef up defence cooperation

PANO – This year, Vietnamese and Lao Ministries of National Defence will promote the bilateral defence cooperation, especially in delegation exchange at all levels, education and training and defence policy dialogue.


This information was announced at a signing ceremony for the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Agreement Protocol in 2015 between Vietnamese Minister of National Defence General Phung Quang Thanh and his Lao counterpart, Senior Lieutenant General Sengnuon Saynhalat, at the Ministry’s Headquarters on January 20th.

Besides, the two ministries will join hands in managing security and order in areas along the shared border, developing economy in combination with strengthening national defence, carrying out healthcare programs, conducting Party and political work, and finding and collecting remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military specialists who sacrificed serving international duties in Laos.


The two ministers affirmed that defence cooperation is the backbone in the two countries’ traditional relations and the two sides will effectively implement the signed agreements to heighten the special ties between the two States, armies and peoples.
