Specifically, since the start of the year, Vietnam’s footwear exports to the two largest markets, the EU and US, were worth USD1.09 billion (up 8.2 percent against a year ago) and USD1.04 billion (up 20.4 percent). The two markets made up 66.3 percent of the country’s total footwear exports.
In addition, Vietnam’s footwear exports to some countries which were not traditional markets also increased sharply in the first five months this year. They were Thailand, up 43 percent over the same period last year at nearly USD10 million; Argentina up 39 percent at over USD18 million; Israel, up 35 percent at USD6.7 million; Slovakia, up 33 percent at USD31 million; and Russia, up 31 percent at USD33.8 million.
According to a representative from the Vietnam Association of Leather and Footwear, in spite of difficult economic situation in the EU and US, Vietnam’s footwear export to the two markets still grew 15 percent at USD7.2 billion in 2012./.
